How To Stay Fit While Travelling : 8 Training and Nutrition Tips

It may seem like travelling would be a great excuse to ditch your fitness goals, but the opposite is actually true! Travelling is an opportunity to stay on track and make exercise a priority in your life, no matter where you are. There are plenty of ways you can use the time to train while travelling to maintain your fitness routine.

If enjoying the trip, local food, and new culture whilst exercising, eating the right foods, and keeping fit sounds like your ideal vacation, then keep reading this article for tips on how to do it.

Whether you are going on a business trip or a long-awaited vacation, the following advice can apply to you in one way or another!

Food

It is essential to stay flexible and try not to stress too much – there will always be some things that are out of your control. Make sure that you enjoy your trip as much as possible and don’t let strict dieting ruin it! The following tips will help you manage your nutrition on your trip:

Choose proteins & healthy fats over high-carbohydrate meals

Travelling often means eating out, which can lead to consuming too many calories and fat. To avoid this, make sure your meals are balanced with lean protein, healthy fats, and good carbs.

Stop eating when feeling full

Stop eating when you feel full instead of waiting until you’ve finished everything on your plate. It really helps to control portion sizes – especially when you eat out at restaurants with large portions. On the other hand, don’t go to bed with a full stomach – this will make sleeping difficult.

Drink plenty of water and don’t go overboard with alcohol

Alcohol is delicious but can easily cause weight gain over time (especially beer). If you want to drink alcohol while travelling, just try not to go overboard – maybe have one or two drinks a day and skip the other ones?

Bring your own healthy snacks

It is easy to get into the habit of eating unhealthy foods when travelling because they are readily available, convenient, and sometimes even cheap! However, eating this way while trying to stay fit can lead to an increase in weight gain and other health-related problems, so it is vital that you bring your own food with you wherever possible so that you can rely on something other than what is available at the local convenience store or restaurant near where you are staying.

If possible, try avoiding eating out every day several times a day and do some research about where the best places for healthy food might be near where you will be staying during any given visit or business trip.

Physical activity

Once you know what you are doing nutrition-wise, it’s time to think about physical activity.

Plan in advance

To stay fit, it's important to bring your own workout gear. The best bet is to take a bag with you and put everything in there. If you're staying at a hotel, check if they have a gym or fitness centre and what the hours are. They may also know about any group exercise classes that are offered by their own gym.

If you're travelling on a cruise ship, chances are that there will be some sort of gym available onboard.

If you're taking highway trips or road trips (not driving across the country), make sure to pack everything into one bag that contains everything needed for outdoor activities such as hiking trails or beaches where swimming is possible – a great way not just being active but also connecting with nature itself by doing so!

Research local fitness centres and pools

If you're new to a city, there are a few ways to find out what's available in terms of gyms and classes. First, try looking online at the local listings for fitness centres and see what pops up. You may even want to do some research on Yelp or TripAdvisor if your city has that kind of website where people publicly review businesses.

Next, check with your hotel's front desk to see if they can recommend any nearby gyms or health clubs. If there isn't anything available at the hotel gym or class schedule that doesn't work with your travel plans, consider checking out CrossFit boxes in your area as well as other types of workout studios.

You could also look into finding a park or beach that has equipment set up so that if none of those things pan out while travelling abroad then all hope isn't lost!

Try outdoor activities.

You don't want to be the guy or girl who goes on vacation and gains 10 pounds, right? Then make sure you're doing some outdoor activities. These will help build your strength, improve your cardiovascular health, give you a mental break from work and create lasting memories with friends and family. Plus, it's nice to get outside in new places. Here are some examples:

-   Hiking;

-   Kayaking/boating;

-   Cycling (roads or off-road);

-   Sailing;

Use workout and nutrition apps to keep you going.

If you're travelling with a limited budget, or simply don't have time to go to a gym, there are apps that can help you stay fit. For example, some apps offer workouts that focus on different areas of exercise (such as cardio and strength). You can choose from the app's recommended workout or create your own based on the type of activity you want to do.

Also, if you are really worried about losing track of your progress, you can use any nutrition tracking app, for example, to remind you to drink more water or to log your meals.

Conclusion

Travelling can be stressful and tiring, but it doesn’t have to derail your fitness goals. Exercise regularly and eat well but make sure it doesn’t interfere with your vacation plans or make you feel drained. If you find yourself skipping workouts or feeling too tired for exercise, take a break from training while travelling for a few days until things calm down, and then start again when you return home.
